My problem with the new Planet of the Apes trailer

Well, two problems reaaly. My first problem is that they are making another Planet of the Apes movie. Didn't they already make more than enough of these silly movies in the 1970's?

Apparently, Monkey Lovin' was considered acceptable back then?

And haven't they already done the obligatory "gritty reboot?"

And didn't we all laugh at it then? So why in the world would they think to make a new version with a completely different origin story with the "unintended consequences of science" theme popularized by Mary Shelley?

Why we can't have stem-cell research, because this might happen.

But, since the movie industry has developed a crippling fear of anything original, I guesss I shouldn't be too terribly surprised. They made a Miami Vice movie, for God'sake. And an A-Team movie. And Two Charlies' Angels movies!

But here's my main problem with the new Planet of the Apes trailer:

Okay, I get that the chimps are super-smart. And I get that they are seriously pissed off, and rightly so. And there are a lot of them, and they're very strong. But what the filmmakers seem to have forgotten is that people have guns. If a bunch of angry monkeys started tipping over cars on the Golden Gate Bridge, how long do you think it would take for the SFPD to mow them all down? Okay, maybe the SFPD isn't our best defense, but eventually, these damn dirty apes are going to wind up in East Palo Alto or Richmond, and they're going to run into these muthafukkas:

Or they'll wander into Oakland and run smack into these sob's:

Either way, there's gonna be a whole bunch of dead monkeys pretty quick.

Granted, these monkeys are pretty scary.

But how are they going to beat a species who have this:

And this:

And this:

I just don't see how you could make a Planet of the Apes movie that's so unrealistic!

Now this is more like it:

Who the hell put this scumbag in charge?

The Fast Fix: Grover Norquist’s effect on the debt ceiling

I knew this little turd had his stupid "No new taxes" pledge, and I knew some Republicans had signed it, but holy shit! Two Hundred and Forty members of Congress?  How dare they? How dare they sign an oath to a single person when they are supposed to represent the people of their district and the people of the United States in general? So even though a majority of the people want to see a compromise on the debt ceiling, even though most people want to see the Bush tax cuts expire for the richest, and most people want to end tax breaks for huge super-profitable corporations, these assholes are apparently willing to ignore the will of the people because they owe their loyalties to one little shitbag who hates taxes.

http://www.minnpost.com/_asset/f0nrqv/mp_main_wide/GroverNorquist0211_452.jpg

Bow before me, Republicans! Pledge to me your loyalty!

Don't the members of Congress take a much more serious oath upon taking office? Don't they swear to support and defend the Constitution? The Constitution which requires that we do not default on our debt payments? Shouldn't that oath supercede any brain-dead promise to a weasly little bag of scum who clearly does not have the best interests of the Nation in mind?

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/images/2008/06/26/grover.jpg
.Fuck it, I'm rich. What the hell do I care if the country goes broke?

Why is this even allowed? Isn't this a pretty blatant conflict of interest? And also just blockhead stupid. No matter the circumstances, no matter what might be best for the US of A, you swear that you will not allow even the slightest revenue increase? Because your anti-tax anti-government ideology is more important to you than the health of the US economy. Does that sound like responsible leadership to anyone?

What the Hell is Wrong with These Guys?

Gay conservative group reaches out to Bachmann

As gay-issue advocacy groups increase pressure on Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann over her views about homosexuality, the gay conservative group GOProud is requesting a meeting with the Republican presidential candidate to possibly lend a hand.
 http://www.fowlvisions.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/backyard-chickens.jpg
We're considering supporting Colonel Sanders!

In an interview with Politico, GOProud chairman Christopher Barron said he was "concerned" and "troubled" by Bachmann's record and past statements about gay issues, but would not "be part of any 'war against Michele Bachmann.'"

GOProud officials generally stress that sending a Republican to the White House trumps a candidate's view on one issue.

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/images19/MiceAdorableSiamese2.JPG
Sure, she's a cat, but she's gonna cut our taxes!

You know, I could see taking that position if the one issue where you disagree with a candidate was, say, monetary policy, or drug enforcement, or anything other than whether you personally deserve to be treated as a second-class citizen. How is that not a deal-breaker? It's like saying "my wife and I agree on almost everything except for the matter of her fucking other men. I'm certainly not going to let one little difference spoil our otherwise perfect marriage."

**NOTE** The preceding example has absolutely NOTHING to do with my marriage. My wife is awesome like you wouldn't believe. I was just using that as an example of an equally pathetic thing that someone, not me, could theoretically say.

GOProud's website lists 10 legislative priorities, and only one--the opposition to a federal marriage amendment--concerns gay rights.  The other nine focus on issues that could appear on any conservative group's website, such as lower taxes, support for Second Amendment rights and repealing the 2010 health care law.

Wow! It's so important to these guys to prevent people from having medical care that they would make common cause with someone who views them as undeserving of equal rights. They would rather have discrimination against them enshrined into law than have insurance companies not be able to screw people out of coverage based on pre-existing conditions. Unbelievable! What the hell is wrong with these guys?

http://www.southfloridagaynews.com/images/stories/issues/v2i17/goproud.jpg

And the winner for most ironically named organization is. . .

Did You Know That There Are Some People Who Actually Take Dick Morris Seriously?

So apparently, Dick Morris took the hooker's toes out of his mouth long enough to talk to Sean Hannity about the debt limit.

Nothing like two guys who know nothing about economics discussing economics in the guise of experts.

Dick Morris says there is no chance of going into default. Forget the fact that everyone who actually does know anything, from academic economists to Wall Street assholes, say that the US will absolutely default if the debt ceiling is not raised. No, let's take the word of the guy who wrote THIS:

http://www.ontheissues.org/Condi_vs_Hillary.jpg

Yeah, how did that pan out again? I can't seem to remember which one of them ended up winning the presidency. Was it the one who lost her party's primary or the one who chose not to run at all?

Seriously, has Dick Morris ever been right about anything?

Random Thoughts While Watching the Womens' World Cup Final.

1.  Goddamm, does Japan have the most depressing National Anthem ever?
And it doesn't sound Japanese at all. It sounds like it was composed for a European-style orchestra. It's like an excerpt from the soundtrack of an Ingmar Bergman film.

What does it mean to score a goal? Still I feel empty.

2. Who's the wiseass who brought a vuvuzela? I heard you.

3. Damn, it's nice to see an international soccer match where no one is flopping around on the ground pretending to be crippled for life after the slightest contact!

4. Megan Rapinoe does not get enough credit. She makes some feaking amazing passes.

Megan Rapinoe Megan Rapinoe #16 of Team USA drives upfield with the ball against Team Ireland during the international women's soccer game held on July 23, 2006 at Torero Stadium in San Diego, California. USA defeated Ireland 5-0.
5. So they're saying that this is going to cheer Japan up, huh? That would be great, God knows they need it, but i just can't see it. "My home is gone. My wife is dead. The radioactivity will probably give my children horrible diseases. . . what? We won? Fuck yeah! Woooo Soccer!" Seems a little dubious.

The Dumbest Product Ever

Cami Secret is a product whose creation seems to have been motivated by its' designer's belief that there are many women out there who own only one shirt. And these women love showin' off the goodies at the nightclub, but can't seem to figure out how to get their skeevy coworkers to stop staring down their cleavage.

http://www.realbeauty.com/cm/realbeauty/images/aI/rb-frustrated-woman-1-0809-mdn.jpg
There's Got to be a better way!

Well, Now There Is!

The Cami-Secret seems to be a solution in search of a problem. I have to imagine that most professional women own more than one shirt and have no problem changing out of one and into another. After a long day at the office, if a lady is going out to the club, looking to maybe hook up or whatever they're calling it these days, wouldn't she probably go home and shower first anyway?  That'd be one way to solve this dilemma.

Or, she could just wear an actual camisole. I'm pretty sure they are widely available. And it's got to be less embarrassing than ordering a lady dickie.

http://www.cherrybombed.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/Sears75DickieBra.jpg

Oh, but with a real camisole, you have to keep tucking it in!
Sure, or you could just get one in your size, maybe?

OK, but can your "actual" camisole do this?

And Cue Phony Right-Wing Outrage in 3...2...

Ever since ABC aired footage of a "therapist" at Marcus Bachmann's horrible bullshit clinic offering to "cure" a gay guy, the right wing has cranked up the old phony outrage gin.

Bachmann & Associates Targeted by Pro-Homosexual Group

By Paul Stanley
Christian Post Reporter

Bachmann & Associates, the Christian counseling center owned by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and her husband Marcus, is coming under fire from a radical, pro-homosexual group for allegedly ministering to homosexual clients.

Wow! where to begin? "Radical?" Pointing out that the "ex-gay" movement is full of harmful bullshit is "radical?" I would think trying to change a person's sexuality would be quite a bit more "radical" than pointing out that people are actually trying this.
And "allegedly ministering to homosexual clients?" What are you saying here? We don't accept any clients that are gay? You don't "minister" to them? Your employee wasn't allegegdly caught on tape "allegedly" ministering to an "allegedly" gay client?

Media Guns Fire Blanks at Bachmann

By: Cliff Kincaid
July 12, 2011

Once a greatly feared investigative reporter, Brian Ross has been reduced to recycling left-wing material from the homosexual lobby. But the pathetic hit job he narrated on Monday’s ABC Nightline show on GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann has backfired in a big way. The charge was that the Bachmann family counseling service engages in terrible things by teaching homosexuals how to leave their disease-ridden lifestyle.

Pathetic hit job? Showing footage of something that actually happened is a hit job?

Ross called this method of counseling, which emphasizes religious conversion, “highly controversial” and said it “could become a campaign issue.” Ironically, however, he presented evidence that ex-homosexuals do in fact exist

"Highly controversial" is really the most generous description one could give of ths so-called "therapy." And what he presented evidence of is the existence of deluded repressed closet-cases who like to claim to be "ex-gay."
The Brody FileHit Job by ABC News Against Michele Bachmann and Conservative Christians?

Ladies and gentlemen, we have found Exhibit A when it comes to media bias against conservative evangelical Christians. Congratulations to Brian Ross and his ABC News Investigative Unit!

Ross and the crew decided to do an “undercover investigation” about the use of reparative therapy at the Christian clinic owned by Michele and Marcus Bachmann. It is designed to convert gays back to heterosexuality through prayer and a therapeutic clinical process.

Apparently, Brody didn't get the memo. The Bachmanns adamently deny that their clinic engages in "reparative therapy." Even though they totally do.

First of all, you’re kidding me right? They did an undercover investigation to make the point that the healing power of Jesus Christ can transform lives? That’s what passes for an undercover investigation nowadays? Oy-gevalt.

Um, no. No, they did an investigation to make the point that this DOESN'T work.

Secondly, let’s search for editorial balance in the piece. OK. I’m done. There wasn’t any.

Um, yeah, you don't need editorial balance for a piece showing that the world isn't flat, or that werewolves aren't real or that ex-gay therapy is bullshit.
Finally,in terms of the conservative evangelical response, ABC News and Ross’s crew could have mentioned the group Exodus International who defines its mission as, “Mobilizing the body of Christ to minister grace and truth to a world impacted by homosexuality.”
Also, they didn't have on a representative of the Flat Earth Society, or any cryptozoologists.

Teabaggers Face New Threat.

MANATEES!

http://ibexinc.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/greatwhite.jpg

Oh no, wait. I mean. . .

Manatees.

http://dingo.care2.com/pictures/c2c/share/20/204/471/204712_370.jpg

First these aquatic plants, next your freedom!

Yes, the new scariest, most dangerous threat to the teabaggers' liberty is manatees. Or, technically, federal protections for manatees.

Tea party members tackle a new issue: manatees

By Craig Pittman, Times Staff Writer
In Print: Wednesday, July 13, 2011

A Citrus County tea party group has announced that it's fighting new restrictions on boating and other human activities in Kings Bay that have been proposed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Hmm, that doesn't sound crazy yet. People opposed to restrictions on their activities. But I'll bet they don't go one more sentence without it turning looney.

"We cannot elevate nature above people," explained Edna Mattos, 63, leader of the Citrus County Tea Party Patriots, in an interview. "That's against the Bible and the Bill of Rights."

The Bible and the Bill of Rights. Well, buckle your sanity belt, it's going to be a bumpy night!

You know, I'll give you the Bible. there is probably a passage in there somewhere that says people are more important than animals, I sure don't have time to read the whole book to find out, so I'll just concede the Bible. But the Bill of Rights? To  which amendment specifically are you referring? Where does it say that "the right of the people to run over large aquatic mammals with outboard motors shall not be infringed upon?"

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2434/3915787153_71519655ae.jpg
Right after the right to openly threaten armed insurrection!

Last week, Mattos, who says she has 800 members signed up on her group's website, and other tea party members picketed outside a public hearing on the new rules. Because they weren't allowed to bring their signs inside, she said, "my anger took over" and she sent a sharply worded e-mail to thousands of tea party members across Florida, urging them to write to Congress to block the Fish and Wildlife Service.

A sharply worded e-mail? That's what happens when your anger takes over?

http://www.freshmilkclothing.com/product_images/m/468/Angry_Design_View__86213_zoom.jpg

J/K LOL!

To Mattos, what the agency has proposed will erode private property rights. She predicted they will prevent people who own waterfront land from tying up boats at their docks "because you can't have anything that interferes with the manatee because they'll get trampled on."

Who will get trampled on? The manatees?  The people who interfere with manatees? Will the manatees be doing the trampling? I don't get it.

Current regulations have helped boost the manatee population from 100 to 500, so clearly they're sufficient, Mattos said. In fact, in her view, the manatee rules tie in to global development issues.
"We believe that (federal regulators') aim is to control the fish and wildlife, in addition to the use of the land that surrounds this area, and the people that live here and visit. … As most of us know, this all ties in to the United Nations' Agenda 21 and Sustainability."

Agenda 21? Do I dare peek down that rabbit hole?

http://wandasays.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/what-was-the-rabbits-name-in-alice-in-wonderland3.jpg?w=242&h=318

I wouldn't recommend it!

Oh, what the hell. Maybe just a quick Google search.

UN Agenda 21 - Coming to a Neighborhood near You

By Scott Strzelczyk and Richard Rothschild
Most Americans are unaware that one of the greatest threats to their freedom may be a United Nations program known as Agenda 21. The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Division for Sustainable Development created Agenda 21 as a sustainability agenda which is arguably an amalgamation of socialism and extreme environmentalism brushed with anti-American, anti-capitalist overtones.

Oh, my!

Is the Soros-Sponsored ‘Agenda 21’ a Hidden Plan for World Government?

(Yes, Only it Is Not Hidden)

 Oh, dear!

AGENDA 21 - SUSTAINABLE MEDICINE + SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT = DUTY TO DIE!!  "If you think globalism, Agenda 21 and "community plans" only concern the environment under the noble banner of "saving the earth"... YOU COULD VERY WELL END UP "DEAD" WRONG, as in "dead as a do-do bird!"
Sustainable Medicine + Sustainable Development = Duty to Die
The UN global agenda and "Global Management System" is ALSO about the medical mafia and "sustainable medicine" under the rubric of "sustainable development", better known as

POPULATION REDUCTION.

Dr. Kavorkian was just the initial volley to condition the masses concerning "quality of life".
These qualify of life issues concern not only the "right to die"... but the requirement that you DO!

 Oh, my stars!

Always listen to the rabbit. Always listen to the rabbit.

The Citrus County tea party group's website says Agenda 21 is "designed to make humans into livestock."
Mattos said she enjoys showing off the manatees to her grandchildren, but she had little use for the Save the Manatee Club, explaining, "If some of these environmental movements had been around in the days of the dinosaurs, we'd be living in Jurassic Park now."

That's So Bachmann!

http://thinkprogress.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/bachmann.jpg
First, Michele Bachmann gets handed an idiotic "pledge" from some Iowa-based Family-Something organization and she actually signs the damn thing! Completely what you'd expect from our Ms. Bachmann.

The pledge requires candidates to vow to not cheat on their spouses (mysteriously, Newt Gingrich declined to sign the pledge), to do everything possible to make life harder for the gays, and defend us against the imaginary threat of Sharia law.
http://www.ifapray.org/CC/111010/Sharia-law-Billboard-400.jpg

So, of course she signs it, of course she does! But either she didn't really read what she was signing all that closely, or she didn't realize that some people (decent people) might take some offense at this statement in the vow's preamble:

(yes, it has a preamble, of course it has a preamble. That's how you know it's good, like the Constitution)

Slavery had a disastrous impact on African-American families, yet sadly a child born into slavery in 1860 was more likely to be raised by his mother and father in a two-parent household than was an African-American baby born after the election of the USA‟s first African-American President.

That line is probably not meant as an endorsement of slavery, but any candidate with any sense would realize that it kinda sounds like the "they were better off as slaves" argument that you sometimes hear from racist assholes. Michele Bachmann is Not one of those politicians.

http://0.tqn.com/d/atheism/1/0/9/8/3/MicheleBachmann-170x170.jpg

Then, as only she can do, our Ms. Bachmann finds a way to make it worse.

A Bachmann spokeswoman said earlier Saturday that reports the congresswoman had signed a vow that contained the slavery language was wrong, noting it was not in the “vow” portion.
“She signed the ‘candidate vow,’ ” campaign spokeswoman Alice Stewart said. . .

Okay, you could just stop there. Admit that your candidate didn't really know what she was signing, but pretend that that isn't one of her many disqualifications for public office. It's a pretty weak argument to claim that she only signed the "vow" part, not the adjoining text, but whatever. You work with what you got.

“She signed the ‘candidate vow,’ ” campaign spokeswoman Alice Stewart said, and distanced Bachmann from the preamble language, saying, “In no uncertain terms, Congresswoman Bachmann believes that slavery was horrible. . .

Okay. You really shouldn't need to state that your candidate is anti-slavery, but considering the current political atmosphere, it probably is a good idea to get that on the record. Show your candidate's sensitive side, she understands that slavery is horrible. That actually might come a s a surprise to some observers. Okay, you're probably going to want to stop there.

But, no. This is Michele Bachmann we're talking about. Of course she won't stop there.

“In no uncertain terms, Congresswoman Bachmann believes that slavery was horrible
and economic enslavement is also horrible.”

Economic enslavement? Really? By which you mean what, having to pay taxes? Having a government that runs a deficit? I'm not sure what she considers "economic enslavement" but did she really just equate it to actual slavery? Actual manacles whips and human auction slavery?

http://honolulunotes.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/michele-bachmann-shrug-sized.jpg
Of course she did! What the hell else would you expect from Michele Bachmann?

You can read the entire text of the "vow" here: http://www.thefamilyleader.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/themarriagevow.final_.7.7.111.pdf
It's actually pretty short, and fairly entertaining in a freakshow kind of way. Even the footnotes which state things like:

No peer-reviewed empirical science or rational demonstration has ever definitively proven, nor even has shown an overwhelming probability, that homosexual preference or behavior is irresistible as a function of genetic determinism or other forms of fatalism.

No studies have ever proven that gay folks don't purposely choose to be gay, therefore, we can only conclude that they do!

That's so Bachmann!

Is Eric Cantor Merely Corrupt,Or Actually Treasonous?

Via Salon:

Last year the Wall Street Journal reported that Cantor, the No. 2 Republican in the House, had between $1,000 and $15,000 invested in ProShares Trust Ultrashort 20+ Year Treasury EFT. The fund aggressively "shorts" long-term U.S. Treasury bonds, meaning that it performs well when U.S. debt is undesirable. (A short is when the trader hopes to profit from the decline in the value of an asset.)

Eric Cantor will personally profit if the US defaults on its debts. He may profit just from the uncertainty surrounding the debt ceiling negotiations if that uncertainty causes US Treasury bonds to become less desirable investments.

So when he storms out of the debt ceiling negotiations, one has to wonder, is it just a childish snit, or is he purposely trying to scare investors off of T-bills?

Either way, the sonofabitch is betting against the US of A. When Pete Rose got kicked out of baseball for betting, his one saving grace, the one thing that made it possible that he might be re-instated someday, is that he never bet against his own team. Eric Cantor is betting against his own team. It may be legal, but it's wrong. It's wrong and he should be given the Pete Rose treatment.

Why we Rarely Venture Outside the City Limits of Atlanta

Because in much of the rest of Georgia, they vote for people like this:

http://www.nrcc.org/default/images/Price.jpg
Rep. Tom Price (R-Roswell)

Speaking to the crowd, U.S. Rep. Tom Price (R-Roswell) noted that 87 new Republicans had joined the House, changing the entire dynamic of Washington.

Yet Price warned that President Obama would use "every demagogic tool in his box" to turn the public against Republicans.

"And the way that that happens is as we approach this debt ceiling challenge that we've got right now Congress can say, 'no,' and then the president decides who gets paid," Price said. "And if the president says 'OK, that's all right with me, but the troops won't get paid, the senior citizens won't get their Social Security check and the docs taking care of Medicare patients won't get paid,' that's what we're looking at. The only way for us to prevail is for you to stand strong, recruit your friends, your neighbors, everybody else to the cause."

Yeah, he's really up there in public implying that Barack Obama will withhold payment from our troops, our elderly and Medicare. Really. the guy who's supposed to be such a raging socialist is going to fuck over Social Security and Medicare. Besides, Social Security payments don't come out of the general fund anyway, so they would not even be on the table for these imaginary cuts. With someone like Price, it's hard to tell whether he's lying or just actually that ridiculously ignorant.

Then there's Rep. Paul Broun (R-Athens)
http://foolocracy.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Paul_Broun-364x470.jpg

U.S. Rep. Paul Broun (R-Athens), who delivered the invocation, warned about the future of the U.S.

"We're standing on the precipice, staring down in the deep chasm of socialism and total government control," Broun said.

Broun called on the audience to reflect on the principles provided by the Founding Fathers

"You know, principles like slavery," he did not add.

Nice invocation, by the way. Isn't an invocation supposed to be something like "Lord on this the Fourth of July, we thank Thee for the many blessings that Thou hast  bestowed upon this great nation, etc. . . ."  (Yeah, I know how how to invocate!)
But seriously, this is part of the opening prayer?

"Father, there are many who want to destroy us from outside this nation," Broun said. "Folks like al-Qaeda and the radical Islamists. But there are folks that want to destroy us from inside, the progressives and the socialists, who want to make this nation a nation that's no longer under you, under God, but a nation that's ruled by man."

I don't know if that's more insane or just dickish.  Progressives want to destroy the nation from within? Really? Wanting a more progressive tax code and a more equitable distribution of wealth, that's the same thing as wanting to destroy the nation?

Of course, there's Phil Gingery
https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcKn2w7IhRn9KyJI6Ck8xR2cm7gJb03svQPQyHnSh4WBWKLVVXGi20B4-Jqv1R-8wObJTonT_uFRVWacJsiOU2LTknlz4x-rShWjmb_rmv_HmUcEGfh_gRlidNHVH71GQOQcEUQ9YYl3M/s320/pgingrey.jpg
U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Marietta) said when Obama was first elected he went on a world tour and proceeded to apologize "for all the sins of U.S."

"And when he was asked about American exceptionalism, his comment was something to the effect that, 'well, all countries are exceptional,'" Gingrey said. "Well, many countries are special, but only one is exceptional, and that is the United State of America. And we need never apologize for that."

No, I'm no fancy big-city theologian, but I'm pretty sure that apologizing for one's sins is one of the things that the Good Book recommends. Also, "American Exceptionalism" is a pernicious fallacy. (Yeah, I know some fancy big-city words!)

Anyone who believes that only one country is exceptional and it's us is thinking like a child. Like a child who thinks that my daddy is the biggest, strongest, smartest person in the whole wide world. Usually, most children eventually grow up and realize that okay, my dad's pretty strong, and he's pretty smart, but really he's but a mere mortal. The "American Exceptionalism" crowd never matures to this level. It's pathetic.

And State Representatives aren't any better. See Exhibit A: Chip Rogers

State Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) said if Republicans want to win in the next election, the message must be one of freedom. That's why he supports the Fair Tax and healthcare that allows medical choices to take place between him and his doctor rather than between him and the president.

Right, because when I think of freedom, I think of the freedom to pay my taxes in the form of a National sales tax rather than an income tax.  That's just another word for freedom, which is, I believe, just another word for nothin' left to lose. (Thank you, Kris Kristofferson!)

Also, I would like healthcare that allows decisions to be made by me and my doctor, not my doctor's office staff and some asshole at Aetna. I would sooooo much rather have Barack Obama in the examination room with me than Healthnet McBlue Shield.

Moreover, "I support a parent's right to choose how their child is educated because the next generation of Americans are the ones that are going to keep us free, and they ought not have to be dictated by government," Rogers said. "It ought to be the parents who run education in this country. Not the government. You should not have to go to a school based on your United States postal mailing address."

Yeah, the reason your kids' school is decided by your adress is because that's the school that your property taxes support. If you live over in Affluent Valley, and you're paying a million dollars in property taxes, you're not going to be too happy when my imaginary son from here in Pothole Grove shows up at the fancy school you're paying for. It's not some crazy government scheme to control what your kids are learning, it's just the shitty system we have for funding schools. You're getting the better end of that deal, so I wouldn't bitch too much about it, genius!

Anyway, that's why we prefer to stay inside the 285 peremiter, where we can be proud to be represented by civil rights legend John Lewis.

Holy Shit, CNN is Terrible!

Here's a 4th of July story from CNN.com:

End of Jewish golden age on Capitol Hill?

By Dave Schechter, CNN

The following may cheer those who complain that Jews exercise too much influence in the American political system.

Good news, anti-semites and conspiracy theorists!

“The massive overrepresentation of Jews on Capitol Hill, long a source of pride for the community, has been shrinking in recent years and could drop in the coming election cycle from 41 to the mid 30s, a level last seen 15 years ago,” Nathan Guttman recently wrote in The Forward, the Jewish newspaper.

Look, we're totally not being racist, because we're quoting a real live Jew!

“It is the drawing down of a generation that believed in civil service,” Jacques Berlinerblau, director of Georgetown University’s Jewish civilization program, told Guttman, citing generations of post-World War II American Jews who, as Guttman phrased it, “saw special value in entering public service and also in reaching beyond the interests of their own community.”

Berlinerblau expanded on the subject in The Chronicle of Higher Education:
In my own writing I have referred to this half century as the era of 'secular Yiddishkeit.' It was the moment when the children of immigrant Jews of Eastern and Central European appeared to take over the world.

I knew it!
Today, Jews make up more than 7 percent of the 112th Congress while being just 1.7 percent of the U.S. population. There are 13 Jews in the Senate and 28 in the House

So, yeah, they're pretty much running things. I mean, 7 percent! That's practically a majority!
Kurt Stone, a political science professor at Florida Atlantic University and author of two books on Jews in Congress, told The Forward that the decline in Jews in Congress "won’t matter much in terms of the Jewish agenda.”

the Jewish Agenda? I was going to say that sounded really anti-semitic, but I looked him up, and he is an ordained rabbi. So, I guess not. Although his bio says that he is a Dodger fan, which is almost as evil as being an anti-semite.
Also, is it bad that when I read the phrase "Jews in Congress" I hear it being shouted like "Pigs in Spaaaaaace!!!" Probably.

Reports Guttman: “Changing demographic realities are pushing Jewish activists to seek a political partnership with Latinos, America’s fastest-growing minority group, for help in supporting the U.S.-Israel relationship.”

Because there's nothing Latinos care about more than the US-Israel relationship. In fact, improving that relationship is one of their primary GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLs!

Okay, that was definitely bad. Although, in my defense, it's not nearly as bad as CNN.com publishing an article designed specifically to cheer up people who think there are too many Jews in Washington.

I always thought so!
