Adorable Ocelot Kittens try to figure out what Rick Santorum was trying to call Barack Obama
A Knicks fan?
A Nicaraguan?
A Nicotine addict?
A Niçoise salad?
A Nick-at-Nite watching, Nickelback listening, Nicholas Cage watching. . . oh, hell. You know what he meant.

Santorum Calls Bullshit
This is my tough-guy face, mister! Plenty more where this came from!
Here's a sentence I never ever expected to type:
Rick Santorum is right.
Not about anything else, just about this. That was a bullshit question. And if anyone knows bullshit, it's Rick Santorum.
But he did say that Romney was the worst Republican to run against Barack Obama, not the worst Republican in general. So Santorum called Bullshit. What's the reaction from the righties?
Rick Santorum's 'Bullshit' Comment Is No Big Deal
To me, Rick Santorum usually comes off as aloof and, well, like the proverbial 'goody-two-shoes'. The guy is, or appears to be, very clean-cut. Non-controversial.
Call me crazy, but I tend to like a candidate more if they can show a little (or a lot of) emotion. The fact that Santorum got so frustrated with Zeleny that he cussed at him shows me that Santorum is a normal guy. He gets worked up about stuff. In an era when people increasingly put candidates on a pedestal, something like this humanizes him.
On Monday’s “On the Record with Greta Van Sustren,” former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin reacted to Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum referring to the premise of a question posed by New York Times reporter Jeff Zeleny as “bullshit.”“Santorum’s response to that liberal leftist in-the-tank-for-Obama press character really revealed some of Rick Santorum’s character,” she said. “And it was good, and it was strong, and it was about time because he’s saying enough is enough of the liberal media twisting the conservative’s words, putting words in his mouth, taking things out of context and even just making things up.”
So, if you're keeping score at home, Santorum using the word "Bullshit," it:
A) Humanizes him
B) Shows his strong character
and
C) Is no big deal.
Vice-President Biden using the term "big fuckin' deal" is, ironically, a big fucking deal. It is potty-mouthery of such biblical proportion as to be more alarming than even Janet Jackson's nipple!
Vice President Cheney telling Senator Leahy to go "fuck himself" on the Senate floor? A charming piece of curmudgeonliness.
Theresa Heinz-Kerrey telling a reporter to "shove it," however, is a moral crisis the likes of which has not been seen since NYPD Blue showed David Caruso's doughy, amorphous buttocks on television.
Bush and Cheney referring to a reporter as a "major-league asshole?" Just keepin' it real!
This?
Youthful playfulness. Oh, Georgie, you're incorrigible! What a child-like love of life you have!

Fox reporter says dumbest thing ever about global warming
(via C&L)
Fox Business reporter Tracy Byrnes says that climate change is overblown because the temperature of the Earth "basically hasn't changed much since the Ice Age."
Seriously, the temperature hasn't changed much since the ice age. The freakin Ice Age! Which is why much of North America is still covered by glaciers. And why Wooly Mammoth burgers are one of our most popular foods.

Does this idiot really not understand what "Ice Age" means?
Try renting this. It should be about your speed.
Jeez, I was just joking!
A few days ago, I thought I was being sarcastic when I tweeted:

I have just 2 things to say regarding my recent sad experience
1. Thank you, everyone for your kind words.
2. Thank God for Medicare. There is a special place in Hell for the Paul Ryans of this world who would dismantle this wonderful program because it clashes with their destructive stupid free-market ideology.

A death in the Family
Due to a very sad circumstance, I will be shutting down for a few days. Back sometime next week.

Okay, we can all stop blogging now!
Bristol Palin has started a blog, so the pinnacle of blogospheric achievement is probably being reached as we speak.
I haven't seen this movie, but I know all about it!
Also, I think you mean to say that your family was treated terribly. And it's not all that unreasonable to expect that McCain's staffers would not be all that kind to the women who was torpedoing any chance he might have had at the presidency.
Surprisingly, yes, I have considered that. Have you ever considered that your mom is too stupid to tell what sort of people were around her? Or does she recognize back-stabbers because, you know, it takes one to know one? What are you even trying to say here? Since your mom could tell that that these staffers were back-stabbing betrayers, that justifies her utter lack of effort?
But here's the masterpiece:
I don't even get that. But in his defense, you did do the "F-word" and then a baby came out of you, so. . .
Yes. He did say that. Which is more than most candidates would have done. He did this, by the way, while your mother was slandering him at every opportunity, claiming that he "pals around with terrorists" and didn't really love America like the rest of us. He has more class in his little finger than your whole tacky family has in all their various appendages.
You know, he did pass the Lily Ledbetter Act. That has probably done more for American women than all the finger-shaking at Bill Maher could ever do.
Look, let me just say this about Bill Maher. Bill Maher is an ass, but let's stop comparing him to Rush Limbaugh. If he said that Sarah Palin is a dumb c**t, that is unacceptable. It's perfectly reasonable to point out that she is a dumb person, but calling her the c-word is just wrong, because now you're bringing gender into it. Now you're kinda denigrating all women, not just the horrible Sarah Palin. It's fine to call her a twit, but not a twat. That being said, what Limbaugh did to Ms Fluke is a whole different ballgame. He "apologized" for using the words "slut" and "prostitute," but take those two words out and his diatribe is still disgusting. For one thing, it's totally dishonest. He claimed that she was having so much sex that she was "going broke paying for contraception." Besides betraying his complete ignorance of how birth control works, that is not at all what she said. Also, he said that she was asking for the taxpayers to pay for her pills. That is also a lie.
Bill Maher should have to face some consequences for his misogynist language, but he's on HBO, so there aren't any sponsors to boycott. Women probably should stop being guests on his show. Or go on his show and crotch-punch him or something. But before you start in with the whole "Bill gets away with saying shit because he's supposedly a 'liberal'" or whatever, may I remind you that Bill has already been kicked off TV once for a controversial comment.
Okay, I lost my train of thought. I think I had a point when I started.
Oh, yeah, when a Democratic congressman has to go groveling to Bill Maher like Phil Gingery did to Rush, then the two will be comparable. When the head of the DNC has to kiss Bill Maher's ring like Michael Steele did to Rush, then we can talk about equivalency.
Please forgive any mis-spellings, a few of the keys are not cooperating.
Let's talk about abstinence, boys!
Here's one of her first posts:
Game Change
I didn’t watch the HBO film Game Change, but it seems that reasonable people of all political stripes can see how terrible our family was treated by the political staffers who were supposed to be helping us.
I haven't seen this movie, but I know all about it!
Also, I think you mean to say that your family was treated terribly. And it's not all that unreasonable to expect that McCain's staffers would not be all that kind to the women who was torpedoing any chance he might have had at the presidency.
(Have you ever considered Mom could tell that the people surrounding her were exactly the type of people who would betray her?)
Mr. President, When Should I Expect Your Call?
Dear President Obama,
You don’t know my telephone number, but I hope your staff is busy trying to find it. Ever since you called Sandra Fluke after Rush Limbaugh called her a slut, I figured I might be next.
Because, why exactly?
You explained to reporters you called her because you were thinking of your two daughters, Malia and Sasha. After all, you didn’t want them to think it was okay for men to treat them that way. . . But here’s why I’m a little surprised my phone hasn’t rung. Your $1,000,000 donor Bill Maher has said reprehensible things about my family.
Okay, Bill Maher is a pig. He's always been a pig. Everyone know that. What does that have to do with Rush and Sandra Fluke?
He’s made fun of my brother because of his Down’s Syndrome. If he did that, he's even more of an ass than I thought. But I still don't see why the President should call you.
He’s said I was “f—-d so hard a baby fell out.”
I don't even get that. But in his defense, you did do the "F-word" and then a baby came out of you, so. . .
. . .And you have tried to build a career on being a teen mom!
If Maher talked about Malia and Sasha that way, you’d return his dirty money and the Secret Service would probably have to restrain you. After all, I’ve always felt you understood my plight more than most because your mom was a teenager. That’s why you stood up for me when you were campaigning against Sen. McCain and my mom — you said vicious attacks on me should be off limits.
Yes. He did say that. Which is more than most candidates would have done. He did this, by the way, while your mother was slandering him at every opportunity, claiming that he "pals around with terrorists" and didn't really love America like the rest of us. He has more class in his little finger than your whole tacky family has in all their various appendages.
Yet I wonder if the Presidency has changed you. Now that you’re in office, it seems you’re only willing to defend certain women. You’re only willing to take a moral stand when you know your liberal supporters will stand behind you.Or maybe he's only taking a moral stand when a powerful media figure spends three days shaming, slandering, and lying about a woman in an apparent attempt to intimidate anyone else who might think of speaking out. Maybe he doesn't have time to call every person who gets insulted by an asshole comedian.
What if you did something radical and wildly unpopular with your base and took a stand against the denigration of all women… even if they’re just single moms? Even if they’re Republicans?
You know, he did pass the Lily Ledbetter Act. That has probably done more for American women than all the finger-shaking at Bill Maher could ever do.
I’m not expecting your SuperPAC to return the money. You’re going to need every dime to hang on to your presidency.Ahahahaha! You do know your party is going to nominate Mitt Romney, right? Or maybe Rick Santorum? Or maybe, just maybe, your dimwit quitter of a mother. Yeah, that's going to be a tough campaign! Hahahahahaha!
Look, let me just say this about Bill Maher. Bill Maher is an ass, but let's stop comparing him to Rush Limbaugh. If he said that Sarah Palin is a dumb c**t, that is unacceptable. Wait, let me get this straight.
(via TPM)
Wait. So, Rick Santorum believes that contraception is a danger to this country, yet he intends to do nothing about it?
Seriously, Mrs. Santorum, you need to tell your dimwit husband that he can't go around saying things like
and
and then have you come out and say "don't worry, he's not going to do anything." Because you really can't have it both ways. You really can't say "vote for me because I will do nothing about this grave threat to our society." You can't claim that birth control is causing "very, very harmful long term consequences to the society" and then say "hey, don't worry about it. I'm totally cool with the baby blockers." Seriously, you just can't do that unless you don't mind looking like an asshole.
oh, right. never mind.
Also, Rick Santorum is fucking crazy.
Defending her husband against charges of being anti-woman, Karen Santorum said Monday on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight: “Women have nothing to fear. When it comes to contraceptives, he will do nothing on that issue.”
Wait. So, Rick Santorum believes that contraception is a danger to this country, yet he intends to do nothing about it?
Seriously, Mrs. Santorum, you need to tell your dimwit husband that he can't go around saying things like
"One of the things I will talk about that no president has talked about before is I think the dangers of contraception in this country"
and
I don’t think it works. I think it’s harmful to women. I think it’s harmful to our society to have a society that says that sex outside of marriage is something that should be encouraged or tolerated … particularly among the young and it has I think we’ve seen very, very harmful long-term consequences to the society. Birth control to me enables that and I don’t think it’s a healthy thing for our country.”
and then have you come out and say "don't worry, he's not going to do anything." Because you really can't have it both ways. You really can't say "vote for me because I will do nothing about this grave threat to our society." Okay, what's going on with Barbara Walters?
Why is a post I wrote back in 2009 about Barbara Walters is getting more hits than any of my othr posts by far.
Has Barbara Walters been in the news lately? Did she kill a guy? I bet she killed a guy. She's been itchin to kill someone for a long time.
Or is there a sex tape? Oh God, please not a sex tape. Why would she make a sex tape? No one wants to see that. What is wrong with you, Barbara Walters?

Romney Says Dumbest Thing of Campaign so Far.
“Those people who don’t think that Latinos will vote for a Republican need to take a look at Puerto Rico,” Romney said
Aaaaand, hold for applause. . .
Oh, good point, Mitt! When given a choice between 4 Republicans, Puerto Ricans will vote for a Republican. Wow! What a fucking insight! No wonder you're in the lead.
Fired for no reason? Too bad. This is Florida!
This is what can happen in a "right-to-work" "at-will" state:
It sounds like some sort of ridiculous exaggeration. Like someone would say "in an 'at-will' state, your boss can fire you for any reason. You can be fired if the boss doesn't like the color of your shirt!"
And then the other guy would say "yeah, right!' And then the first guy would say "okay, not the color of your shirt, but you get the point." Well, yeah, you can apparently get fired for the color of your shirt.
No violation of the law. It is perfectly legal in Florida to deprive people of their livelihood if you don't like the color of their shirts. This is the future if people like the Koch brothers, the Scaifes, the Coors family, etc. get their way.
Law firm fires 14 employees for wearing orange shirts
By Eric Pfeiffer | The Sideshow – 5 hrs ago
It sounds like some sort of ridiculous exaggeration. Like someone would say "in an 'at-will' state, your boss can fire you for any reason. You can be fired if the boss doesn't like the color of your shirt!"
And then the other guy would say "yeah, right!' And then the first guy would say "okay, not the color of your shirt, but you get the point." Well, yeah, you can apparently get fired for the color of your shirt.
In an interview with the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, several of the fired workers say they wore the matching colors so they would be identified as a group when heading out for a happy hour event after work. They say the executive who fired them initially accused them of wearing the matching color as a form of protest against management.
The law offices of Elizabeth R. Wellborn, P.A. offered "no comment" to Sun-Sentinel reporter Doreen Hemlock, but four ex-employees tell the paper they were simply wearing their orange shirts to celebrate "pay day" and the upcoming Friday group happy hour.
"There is no office policy against wearing orange shirts. We had no warning. We got no severance, no package, no nothing," Lou Erik Ambert told the paper.
This is the model. This is what they want to roll out across the country. Busting unions, "right-to-work" laws, this is the end result. You can be fired for no reason, and you have no recourse.
After the 14 employees were fired, an executive said anyone wearing orange for an "innocent reason" should speak up. At least one employee immediately denied any involvement or knowledge of a protest and explained the happy hour color coordination. Nonetheless, they were still fired."I'm a single mom with four kids, and I'm out of a job just because I wore orange today," Meloney McLeod told the paper.
And there's really nothing anyone can do about the terminations since Florida is an at-will state, meaning employers can fire an employee who doesn't have a contract "for a good reason, for a bad reason or even for the wrong reason, as long as it's not an unlawful reason," Eric K. Gabrielle, a labor and employment lawyer at Stearns Weaver, told the Sun-Sentinel. Gabrielle said there was no apparent violation of the law in this case.
No violation of the law. It is perfectly legal in Florida to deprive people of their livelihood if you don't like the color of their shirts. This is the future if people like the Koch brothers, the Scaifes, the Coors family, etc. get their way.

There is apparently such a thing as a "Men's Rights Movement"
I had no idea there was a "men's rights" movement until pretty recently. Once I heard about them, I was pretty sure they were nuts.
Yep!
Stupid feminists! Passing laws against beating up four-year-old girls! If that's not a war against men, I don't know what is.
The man’s name was Thomas James Ball. He doused himself in gasoline then self immolated on the steps of a family courthouse in New Hampshire. Mr. Ball chose to use his own agonizing death to focus public attention on the corruption of the family courts. The mainstream media has no interest in human suffering, when it belongs to a man, and before just now, you have probably never heard of him
So this whole tragedy could have been avoided if Ball had simply shown up for court-ordered counseling?
Maybe refusing to follow the rulings of the court might not be the best way to convince the system that you're a responsible parent?
I don't want to make fun of this guy, clearly he was mentally disturbed. You can read his final statement here: http://thomasjamesball.com/thonas-james-ball-last-statment.html,It's full of paranoid victim-speak like:
It really is very sad. What is even sadder is how many of these nutty misogynists are out there on the internet.

W.F. Price seems to spend a lot of time thinking about horrible things that can happen to women.
Wait, it hasn't been uncomfortable up to now? Your casual curiosity about rape was not supposed to be uncomfortable?
Oh, but that's nothing.
Because the readers of the Spearhead leave comments like this:
and:
Honestly, I'm so horrified right now that I forgot what my point was when I started this post. And I'm just too depressed to go back and figure it out.
Yep!
I'm not saying he's nuts for committing suicide. People who commit suicide do so for a variety of reasons, all of them tragic, suicide has nothing to do with insanity. This does, though:Leader’s Suicide Brings Attention to Men’s Rights Movement
In a lengthy “Last Statement,” which arrived posthumously at the Keene Sentinel, Tom Ball told his story. All he had done, he said, was smack his 4-year-old daughter and bloody her mouth after she licked his hand as he was putting her to bed.His four-year old licked his hand? I can't believe the restraint this guy showed by not murdering her right there in her bed! No jury would've convicted him! Goddamm four-year-olds going around licking people!
Feminist-crafted anti-domestic violence legislation did the rest. “Twenty-five years ago,” he wrote, “the federal government declared war on men. It is time to see how committed they are to their cause. It is time, boys, to give them a taste of war.”
Stupid feminists! Passing laws against beating up four-year-old girls! If that's not a war against men, I don't know what is.
Calling for all-out insurrection, he offered tips on making Molotov cocktails and urged his readers to use them against courthouses and police stations. “There will be some casualties in this war,” he predicted. “Some killed, some wounded, some captured. Some of them will be theirs. Some of the casualties will be ours.”
Ball’s suicide brought attention to an underworld of misogynists, woman-haters whose fury goes well beyond criticism of the family court system, domestic violence laws, and false rape accusations. There are literally hundreds of websites, blogs and forums devoted to attacking virtually all women (or, at least, Westernized ones) — the so-called “manosphere,” which now also includes a tribute page for Tom Ball (“He Died For Our Children”).
Oh hell no, there isn't! Is there?
Sighhhhhhh, of course there is!
SUMMARY OF THE THOMAS JAMES BALL CASE
On Friday June 15, 2011, the world became aware of a man who after years of being brutalized by the family court system, decided to share his pain and outrage with the world, with the intent of shining a bright light on the ongoing feminist corruption and the systematic destruction of human beings by a corrupt court system.
The man’s name was Thomas James Ball. He doused himself in gasoline then self immolated on the steps of a family courthouse in New Hampshire. Mr. Ball chose to use his own agonizing death to focus public attention on the corruption of the family courts. The mainstream media has no interest in human suffering, when it belongs to a man, and before just now, you have probably never heard of him
Yes, the mainstream media has no interest in men, which makes sense since almost all the reporters, editors, and on-air broadcasters are women.
One out of three, that's a majority where I come from!
The White House Press Corps, aka the Hen Party.
Thomas, odyssey with Cheshire superior court's "justice" system stretched for an entire decade of his life, and despite making child support payments and having unsupervised visitation with his young son, he was unable to have unsupervised visitation with his two daughters, not because he was considered a danger, but because he refused to attend counseling as ordered by the court. Why did he refuse? Because the location of the counseling was to be Monadnock Family Services, the very same agency that he believed was responsible for escalating the situation and intimidating Karen Ball into calling the police in the first place.
So this whole tragedy could have been avoided if Ball had simply shown up for court-ordered counseling?
Maybe refusing to follow the rulings of the court might not be the best way to convince the system that you're a responsible parent?
He had tried the legal route, filing lawsuits to no avail. He tried to protest, joining the Fatherhood Coalition and picketing courthouses and the state house. Nothing worked. He tried everything! Except for showing up for court-ordered counseling. But other than that, everything!
I don't want to make fun of this guy, clearly he was mentally disturbed. You can read his final statement here: http://thomasjamesball.com/thonas-james-ball-last-statment.html,
Labeling someone's action as domestic violence in American in the 21st century is akin to labeling someone a Jew in Germany in the 1930's. The entire legal weight of the state is coming down on him. But I consider myself lucky. My family was destroyed. But that poor bastard in Germany had his family literally annihilated.and
Feminists had always claimed that when women took over, we would have a kinder, gentler, more nurturing world. After 36 million arrests and 72 million evictions what we got was Joe Stalin.Hitler AND Stalin? That's not feminists, that's Tea-Party Obama!
It really is very sad. What is even sadder is how many of these nutty misogynists are out there on the internet.

(Trigger warning: rape, misogyny)
Rape is said to be one of the worst things that can happen to a woman. It leaves permanent psychological scars, is a tool of oppression, etc. However, it struck me that there are a lot of things women might consider worse than rape, such as, for example, having acid thrown on their faces. An Illuminating Question
by W.F. Price on March 10, 2012
W.F. Price seems to spend a lot of time thinking about horrible things that can happen to women.
W. F. Price, artist's rendition
However, there’s one thing in particular that I’m curious about. Would women consider it worse to be raped or to have their children taken from them? If faced with a choice, which one would they choose?Holy fucking hell, why would you be curious about that?
I’m willing to bet that most mothers would see losing their children as the worst of the two. Personally, I think that’s to their credit, but it brings up an uncomfortable issue.
Wait, it hasn't been uncomfortable up to now? Your casual curiosity about rape was not supposed to be uncomfortable?
. . .it brings up an uncomfortable issue.
That is the fact that women routinely take children away from their children’s fathers. Often with absolutely no sympathy and for no good reason, and certainly far more frequently than men rape women. So, it would stand to reason that fathers suffer a fate worse than rape as a matter of routine.
So how, then, can removal of children from fathers as a matter of routine policy be considered any better than institutionalized mass rape?
Oh, but that's nothing.
Because the readers of the Spearhead leave comments like this:
Rape is forced sexual-intercourse, and sexual-intercourse is not inherently unpleasant (so I have been told); indeed some women service up to twenty or forty men a day in this way (for reward). I understand (and I rely here on Steve Moxon’s book) that even in the worst cases of Rape – and obviously here I mean real Rape and not the new ‘ when I awoke I realised he wasn’t Brad Pitt after all’ type – that the WORST a woman suffers psychologically, is up to three months of MILD depression. . .Given that male suicides are four times higher than female suicides (and there was no difference in rates at the end of the Nineteenth Century) and further (again I learn this from Moxon) Suicide amongst Raped women are no higher than for the remainder of the Female Sex, one must conclude that Rape is fairly trivial. . . .I am going to suggest further that the main victims of Rape are not Women but Men. Traditionally, a woman who had been Raped was less marriagable, – and thus a further drain on her Father – and a man whose wife had been raped was perhaps seen much as a cuckold would be with of course the reponsibility to raise any child born as a result of the Rape – a further financial drain. It is not for the sake of the woman, but the man that Rape was so disliked – as the Raper was a cheater on society. Women, of course, having little grasp of wider issues, – which was why wisely they were not granted Suffrage on a National level – see Rape as being only about themselves; and as they experience sexual intercourse as male power they easily convince themselves when weighing up and justifying their promiscuity, that they were raped when sex was, as it always, but on the rarest of cases is, consensual.
and:
andFor women logic is a thin veneer when it comes to custody and access disputes. Most women quickly give up trying to justify their positions objectively. In the end they want what they want, and feel they have the right to get it.Offer her a $1 million to give up custody of the kid and see what she does
American women today have neither shame nor dignity. They are also untrustworthy, and quite powerful in their own way.
This is the result of almost a century’s worth of reforms that effectively lifted past controls on women’s behaviors.
Rape arouses horror only when a woman a virtuous, i.e. she is a virgin. Virginity is tied to devotion, loyalty, obedience, and submission to man.
When she is taught to be an “equal” to man, she rebels against man and becomes a whore.
Without male dominance, women cannot be virtuous and moral — and consequently, rape loses its power to outrage or horrify.
Given the state of American women today, only a sap or a weakling would bother to lift a finger to save her from being raped.
Honestly, I'm so horrified right now that I forgot what my point was when I started this post. And I'm just too depressed to go back and figure it out.

Sarah Palin still saying idiotic things in public.
Palin said this on the Hannity show the other day:
Yes, because what black man in America wouldn't want to go back to pre-Civil War racial divisions?
She does know he's black, right?
Now, it has taken all these years for many Americans to understand that that gravity, that mistake, took place before the Civil War and why the Civil War had to really start changing America. What Barack Obama seems to want to do is go back to before those days when we were in different classes based on income, based on color of skin.
Yes, because what black man in America wouldn't want to go back to pre-Civil War racial divisions?
She does know he's black, right?

Missing the irony.
Oh, there's definitely some pretty heavy irony in this story, it's just not what people think.
Via LA Times:
Via LA Times:
Reporting from Washington—Mary Brown, a 56-year-old Florida woman who owned a small auto repair shop but had no health insurance, became the lead plaintiff challenging President Obama's healthcare law because she was passionate about the issue.
So Mary Brown hates the government, right? Libertarian, right?
Brown "doesn't have insurance. She doesn't want to pay for it. And she doesn't want the government to tell her she has to have it," said Karen Harned, a lawyer for the National Federation of Independent Business.
Goddamm guv'mint better stay out of her dang business!
But court records reveal that Brown and her husband filed for bankruptcy last fall with $4,500 in unpaid medical bills. Those bills could change Brown from a symbol of proud independence into an example of exactly the problem the healthcare law was intended to address."This is so ironic," Jane Perkins, a health law expert in North Carolina, said of Brown's situation. "It just shows that all Americans inevitably have a need for healthcare. Somebody has paid for her healthcare costs. And she is now among the 62% whose personal bankruptcy was attributable in part to medical bills."
No, that's not the ironic part. Also, it's not really true. Because her medical bills are only about 7% of her total $62,972 debt listed on her bankruptcy filing. And if she would rather go broke than let the government make her buy health insurance, that just shows how dedicated to her small-government ideals she really is.
No, the ironic part is that Mary Brown is so up in arms about keeping the government out of her business that she is taking it all the way to the Supreme Court. Because you know, who needs the government, right? But yet, once she gets into financial trouble, to whom does she go for help? Bankruptcy court. A court, an agency of the government. By filing for bankruptcy, Mary "leave me alone, government" Brown is asking the big, evil government to help her get out of paying her debts, because, you know, personal responsibility! Now that's irony!

Things May be looking Up
A couple surprising things have happened recently.
1. The "Million Mom" boycotts have been utter, thudding failures. First they tried to pressure J.C. Penney into dropping Ellen DeGeneres. Then, they tried to start a boycott of Toys 'R' Us because they were selling an Archie comic book featuring a gay wedding. And J.C. Penney and Toys 'R' Us and whoever publishes Archie Comics said basically "nope. No thanks." Not only didn't they cave, they didn't even feel the need to pretend that the Million Morons had some kind of point, or that their complaints were valid and were being considered carefully. They just said nope! We like Ellen. If you hate her, that's your problem.
The CEO of Archie Comics issued this statement:
Finally, someone from the corporate media, and from the Cowardly News Network, no less, calls bullshit on right-wing liars instead of just accepting their bullshit at face value. Unfortunately, no one did this when Breitbart was still alive. Every time he put out some phonied-up piece of video, the media acted like he was Captain Journalism with the Super Scoop, and someone lost their job. This interview may go down in the annals of journalism as the moment when CNN finally started to grow a pair and call a lie a lie. I don't necessarily hold out a lot of hope that this is going to become a pattern, but maybe.
3. Advertisers are FINALLY leaving Rush Limbaugh's horrible hate-fest of a radio show. They are pulling their ads in such large numbers that some stations have actual dead air during commercial breaks (not the good kind of Dead Air)
via Think Progress:
I know, I know Rush is never ever going to be driven off the airwaves. There will always be enough gas-huffing troglodytes to keep his show on the radio. But at least maybe he might get taken down a notch? Down maybe to the point where sitting congressmen don't feel the need to kiss his ass? (looking at you, Phil Gingery!)

The CEO of Archie Comics issued this statement:
We stand by Life with Archie #16. As I’ve said before, Riverdale is a safe, welcoming place that does not judge anyone," he said. "It’s an idealized version of America that will hopefully become reality someday. We’re sorry the American Family Association/OneMillionMoms.com feels so negatively about our product, but they have every right to their opinion, just like we have the right to stand by ours. Kevin Keller will forever be a part of Riverdale, and he will live a happy, long life free of prejudice, hate and narrow-minded people."
Yeah, "prejudice, hate and narrow-minded people." The CEO of Archie Comics called an asshole an asshole. No need to pretend that the assholes are anything but assholes. Good on him!
2. Soledad O'Brien pushed back against one of Breitbart's flunkies.
Finally, someone from the corporate media, and from the Cowardly News Network, no less, calls bullshit on right-wing liars instead of just accepting their bullshit at face value. via Think Progress:
There were four separate instances during this afternoon’s broadcast on WABC 770 AM in New York City where the network fell silent. During the lead in to the show, two and a half minutes of silence was broken up by a single, solitary ad before Limbaugh hit the air. Then, towards the end of the first hour of Limbaugh’s three hour program, a public service announcement was followed by an additional minute of silence before Limbaugh returned. Another minute of dead air came in hour two, and a fifth minute in hour three followed that.

Ralph Reed has got some fuckin balls
Rush: apology accepted. Let's move on and talk about the issues. We're with you.
Oh, YOU accept Rush's "apology?" You accept? You're as big an asshole as he is!
