Friday Flashback: Kid Creole

Kid Creole, who, as it turns out, is not the same Kidd Creole from Grandmaster Flash & the Furious 5, had a string of records in the '80's.He was retro before retro was a thing, with his 1950's Miami vibe. For some reason, he never got all that big, but he had some really good songs

So, apparently they've changed the definition of "Statesman"

The definition of the word "statesman" has apparently been expanded to include "loud-mouthed, self-aggrandizing buffoons who continually trot out the same oft-debunked conspiracy theory because they're horrible people."

Donald Trump To Be Named 'Statesman Of The Year' By GOP Group Before Convention

You know, just like George Washington was always claiming that John Adams was a British operative. And remember how Thomas Jefferson never shut up about how Monticello was the finest, most luxurious plantation in the entire world. Then hosted a shitty game show.

When in the course of human events, you are indeed fired!

Sarasota GOP chairman Joe Gruters called Trump a "wise, skillful and respectful political leader," pointing to public polling last year that showed Trump narrowly trailing President Barack Obama in a hypothetical match-up.

That's quite a generous description considering that Trump has never led anything political. Nor has he ever been respectful of anyone. Nor wise or skillful. Saying that Trump is a skillful political leader makes as much sense as saying that he is a skillful football coach. There's no indication that he would be any good at either.

So, since he's going to be in Florida anyway, is Trump going to be at the GOP convention?

Trump to Have ‘Major Role’ at GOP Convention, Aide Claims

“While I am not at liberty to disclose the specifics of Mr. Trump’s time at the RNC, I can say he will be playing a major role and was happy to honor Gov. Romney’s request to participate in convention events in Tampa,” Trump Executive Vice President and Special Counsel Michael Cohen told ABC News.
The RNC has been rolling out its list of speakers and VIP guests at the convention this week, but Trump’s name and any official role have not been mentioned. Cohen said Trump’s role at the convention will be detailed in a matter of days.

Of course Trump's name has not come up. There's no way in hell they want him speaking at the convention. The primaries are over, Romney has to start pretending to be a reasonable capable leader, not a drooling, right-wing fucktard.

I still want to see more birth certificates!

 Want proof?

Donald Trump 'Declines' Big Speech Offer At RNC: Report

The Huffington Post  |  By Posted: Updated: 08/09/2012 4:43 pm  Yeah. No, he didn't. Donald Trump has never ever ever turned down a chance to shove his fat ugly face in front of any camera or microphone with a decent-sized audience. Donnie, seriously, Romney doesn't want you there! You're an embarrassment. Do you know what an ass you have to be to embarrass Romney? This guy hangs out with Ted Nugent! Not that Nugent is going to be speaking there either, but at least he's probably smart enough to know that.

After weeks of speculation about how RNC organizers would handle the outspoken birther and supporter of GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, a "source with knowledge of convention plans" says an offer for a prime-time speaking slot was made to Trump. According to Newsmax, Trump rejected it due to prior commitments concerning "global business pursuits."

GIFSoup

Oh my God, like your "global business pursuits" can wait while you film another season of the Apprentice, but not the GOP National Convention? You have bigger fish to fry than the GOP National Convention. Really.

GIFSoup

According to Newsmax's source, convention-goers can expect a big “surprise” from the billionaire, who will already be in Florida accepting his "Statesman of the Year" award from the Republican Party of Sarasota County.

Yes, it will be a "surprise" if security doesn't stop him at the door.

By the way, who is Newsmax's "source" for this?

“While I am not at liberty to disclose the specifics of Mr. Trump’s time at the RNC, I can say he will be playing a major role and was happy to honor Gov. Romney’s request to participate in convention events in Tampa,” he said.

So, if I'm getting this right, Trump has enough time to show up at the convention with a big "surprise" and play a major role, but not enough time to give a speech, because you know, business?

Whoever decided to play "Born in the USA" to celebrate the US women's gold medal

Should have taken a quick look at the lyrics first.

Born down in a dead man town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
Till you spend half your life just covering up

Born in the u.s.a., I was born in the u.s.a.
I was born in the u.s.a., born in the u.s.a.

Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

Born in the U.S.A...

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man said son if it was up to me
Went down to see my v.a. man
He said son, don't you understand

I had a brother at Khe Sahn
Fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone

He had a woman he loved in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms now

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years burning down the road
Nowhere to run aint got nowhere to go

Born in the u.s.a., I was born in the u.s.a.
Born in the u.s.a., I'm a long gone daddy in the u.s.a.
Born in the u.s.a., born in the u.s.a.
Born in the u.s.a., I'm a cool rocking daddy in the u.s.a.

Can we just go ahead and arrest Bryan Fischer now?

Because he's trying to encourage people to kidnap children.

Why we need an Underground Railroad to deliver innocent children from same-sex households:

The article he references is a confessional from a young man who claims to have grown up in a household with a loving mother and her mother's lover. And oh, the horror:

To most outside observers, I was a well-raised, high-achieving child, finishing high school with straight A’s.
Inside, however, I was confused. When your home life is so drastically different from everyone around you, in a fundamental way striking at basic physical relations, you grow up weird. I have no mental health disorders or biological conditions. I just grew up in a house so unusual that I was destined to exist as a social outcast.

So, because this teenage boy felt "weird" growing up, we should go around kidnapping children? I felt weird growing up, I'm glad no one kidnapped me. I think if you were going to kidnap every kid who grows up feeling "weird," you'd have to kidnap almost every adolescent in America.

Quick, get the van!

Oh, but there's more:

My peers learned all the unwritten rules of decorum and body language in their homes; they understood what was appropriate to say in certain settings and what wasn’t; they learned both traditionally masculine and traditionally feminine social mechanisms.

Can you imagine? Growing up without learning the unwritten rules of decorum? And of body language? These children must be saved! Damn the laws against kidnapping!

Even if my peers’ parents were divorced, and many of them were, they still grew up seeing male and female social models. They learned, typically, how to be bold and unflinching from male figures and how to write thank-you cards and be sensitive from female figures.

So, not only must there be both a male and a female parent, they must both be total stereotypes? By the way, if you want to learn how to be "bold and unflinching," you should start by studying the lesbians!

Pretty Bad-Ass!

These are stereotypes, of course, but stereotypes come in handy when you inevitably leave the safety of your lesbian mom’s trailer and have to work and survive in a world where everybody thinks in stereotypical terms, even gays.

Stereotypes come in handy? In what world? What, if you have a problem with your computer, do you just ask the nearest Asian?  You need investment advice, you head to the nearest synagogue? What does your embrace of stereotypes have to do with your mother and her girlfriend?

I had no male figure at all to follow, and my mother and her partner were both unlike traditional fathers or traditional mothers.
Um, since these were the only parent you ever knew, how would you know that they were "unlike traditional fathers or mothers?" To whom could you compare them?

As a result, I had very few recognizable social cues to offer potential male or female friends, since I was neither confident nor sensitive to others.

So, you're an insecure jerk? How was that caused by your moms? I mean, they must have had "social cues to offer," since they attracted each other. And before that, each had attracted a husband. So it seems that maybe you just didn't learn from them what you should have.

I was neither confident nor sensitive to others. Thus I befriended people rarely and alienated others easily. Gay people who grew up in straight parents’ households may have struggled with their sexual orientation; but when it came to the vast social universe of adaptations not dealing with sexuality—how to act, how to speak, how to behave—they had the advantage of learning at home. Many gays don’t realize what a blessing it was to be reared in a traditional home.

Seriously? You had no idea how to act, how to speak, how to behave? You weren't raised by wolves! You act like a fucking human being, like your mom, like your brothers, like your friends, like your mom's partner! It's really no different, whether you were raised by two women, two men, or one of each.

My home life was not traditional nor conventional. I suffered because of it, in ways that are difficult for sociologists to index.

Because there's nothing wrong with you, you're just  a jerk. If you had suffered any harm, someone would be able to "index" it.

Both nervous and yet blunt, I would later seem strange even in the eyes of gay and bisexual adults who had little patience for someone like me.

Because you're a jerk! You just demonstrated what a jerk you are by saying  " strange even in the eyes of gay and bisexual adults." You think that those folks are so weird that they're bound to be okay with your weirdness, or something, and you wonder why they have no patience for you?

Life is hard when you are strange. Even now, I have very few friends and often feel as though I do not understand people because of the unspoken gender cues that everyone around me, even gays raised in traditional homes, takes for granted.

Life is hard when you're a jerk that blames your late mother for your inability to connect with other humans.  There are no secret "gender cues" that those of us from traditional families are keeping from you. You're just a jerk.

When I got to college, I set off everyone’s “gaydar” and the campus LGBT group quickly descended upon me to tell me it was 100-percent certain I must be a homosexual. When I came out as bisexual, they told everyone I was lying and just wasn’t ready to come out of the closet as gay yet.

So you're bi? And you're still this contemptuous of other LGBT people? You know you're the "B" in that acronym, right? Also, that story never happened. There is not some LGBT coven that cones swooping down on unsuspecting bisexuals to declare them gay. You made that up.

Anyway, this article goes on and on in this whiny, blame-throwing way. But apparently, for the horrible horrible Bryan Fischer, it's all the justification needed to start kidnapping children, tearing them away from the only families they've ever known and, presumably, depositing them with crazy right-wing religious fanatics to be raised as paranoid little assholes. Can we just go ahead and arrest this insufferable little prick now?

Eight Events which should be eliminated from the Olympics.

1. Basketball
Because, geezus, isn't there enough fucking basketball on the rest of the year? We just finally finished with the 6-month NBA playoffs, now do we really want to watch an NBA all-star team beat Gadzookistan by 70 points? That's not fun for anyone. It's already well established that the US is the world's dominant basketball country. Let's just retire Olympic basketball

110-63. What drama!

2. Anything involving a horse.
Unless the medals are going to be awarded to the horse, because the horse is the only one doing any work. I'm sure it takes a certain skill to get a horse to jump over things, but where's the athleticism? I assume the equestrian events were included to give a sort of gentlemanly air to the Olympics, or to have at least one event that couldn't be won by some commoner, but they seem awfully anachronistic now. And it's a pretty good rule of thumb that if it can be done while wearing a top hat and tails, it ain't a sport.

This guy is the Micheal Jordan of his "sport."
3. Shooting
Because there really isn't anything athletic about pulling a trigger. It's like flicking a lightswitch or changing channels with a remote.  I know there's a lot of skill involved in shooting small targets over great distances, but a lot of things take skill and we don't call them sports. You don't see chess matches on ESPN. (or maybe you do, I don't know) No one calls billiards a sport. If you're not at any risk of breaking a sweat, it's probably not a sport.

I mean, come on. If she can do it. . .

4. "Sprint" cycling
Have you seen this shit? The first half of the race seems to be a contest to see who can go the slowest without tipping over. But even before that, the coaches have to push the cyclists out to the start, hold them steady then push them off like fathers who just removed their sons' training wheels.

Eventually it turns into an actual race, but by then you've just completely lost me.

5. Badminton
Because whatever amount of skill and athleticism are involved in this sport are just completely overwhelmed by the sheer silliness of grown men playing badminton.

Boon Heong Tan (L) and Kien Keat Koo of Malaysia compete in their Men's Doubles Badminton Semi Final match on Day 8 of the London 2012 Olympic Games at Wembley Arena on August 4, 2012 in London, England.
Hee hee! Such tiny little racquets.

6. Tennis
Because every year, EVERY SINGLE YEAR, there are at least 4 tennis events more important than the Olympics. Wimbledon, the US Open, The French Open, and the Australian. And it's the same damn players in the Olympics, so what's to get excited about?

7. Diving
Not most diving. Most of the diving is great. I have no beef with diving from the springboard or the high dive. I have no objection to the pike or the tuck position dives. My only objection is to the dives in the position which has come to be referred to at the Chaos Compound as the "taint" position, or the "hey, get a load of this" position.

Honest to God, dude. No one wants to see that.

8. Fencing
Because when you hear fencing, you think you're going to get this

GIFSoup

But you generally get one fencer lunging at the other, then a buzzer goes off.

It's the most anti-climactic event imaginable.
