aren't his glass sculptures amazeballs? such talent!
We've seen his exhibits, day and night, at the Fairchild Tropical Gardens in Miami, and we also saw his stuff out in Spokane. They're all so beautiful, and at night they're amazing.
There is a Chihuly in the glass atrium of the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha. It is absolutely stunning and one of my favorite pieces in their sculpture collection. On the practical side as an ex-museum curator, take my word for it...it is probably a major bitch to clean. Can you imagine the high stress responsibility of that? Yikes!
Jeez, I never thought about cleaning them. Are they not dishwasher- safe?
Actually, the dishwasher idea is not too far fetched. It comes apart one piece at a time. Of course that would take about a thousand wash cycles and copious amounts of pellets. If you're interested about the terror and method involve, I just found this Omaha World Herald article about who and how they clean it. I'm sure the technique...and terror, is true of all his pieces:
