Flashback Friday - The Jazz Butcher Conspiracy

I completely wore out the albums "Distressed Gentlefolk" and "Sex and Travel" back in the Eighties. The Jazz Butcher Conspiracy could be hilarious, heartbreaking, and/or disturbing, sometimes in the same song. "The Devil is my Friend" still makes me laugh. "Drink" is both funny and sad, being about the band's serious problem with alcohol. "Who Loves You Now?" starts out like a pretty love song but quickly takes a turn towards the dark and sorta creepy. If you missed them the first time, check 'em out now:

How to tell when your political party is getting Desparate.

When party operatives fly to New Jersey to try and recruit Chris Christie to run for president.

Even if it weren't for the whole using the state's helicopter as a commuter car thing,

Even if it weren't for turning down federal money for much-neede transit projects which would have created jobs,

Even if he wasn't notorious for being a loudmouthed bully,

We haven't elected a fat guy president since at least the advent of television. Who was the last fat president? Taft? I know people called Clinton fat, but by any normal standard, he was not a fat guy. Christie looks like the bastard child of Jeff Garlin and George Wendt.

Chris Christie couldn't even carry New Jersey!

NJ voters by a 2-1 margin say Gov. Chris Christie should not run for President in 2012

New Jersey Republican Governor Chris Christie, beloved by some and despised by others for his bluntness, has a Minus 18 job approval today as speculation continues about whether Christie should run for President. 38% of NJ adults approve of the job Christie is doing, 56% disapprove.

This is the guy? This is the guy Republican operatives think can win the White House?

Barack Obama is one lucky SOB if this is the best the opposition party can come up with.

Headline of the Day

Flying bear kills two Canadians in freak accident

Oh, really? That's a freak accident? That's not something that happens all the time in Canada?

I think when the story involves a flying bear, "freak accident" is pretty much implied.

Terrible Marketing - MIO

http://cf.blogetery.com/202314/files/2011/03/c57e32629a6bf851_thumb.larger.jpg

I don't know whether MIO "water enhancer" is a good product or not. I don't really even know exactly what it is. I suppose it adds flavor to water, which makes it glorified Kool-Aid, I guess? I don't know.
But here's what I do know.

A) This looks like blood.

http://lackingsense.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/mio_water.jpg
Specifically, it looks like someone chumming the water to attract sharks for the Discovery Channel cameras. And. . .  B) when they do this with the yellow flavor, it looks like pee.
http://ssk.com/wp-content/uploads/thumb-mio.jpg

I'm sure this flavor is lemonade or some other pleasant yellow-colored flavor, I don't know, French's Mustard? But come on, it looks like pee.

But that's not even the worst visual problem with this product. There's . . .C) the logo.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN4tIyMLn7k_u1g0nBatPMNQVy9iCwUvPQNRT55VI-q08HpddohejhGWQ10EpYEINyRB6RCH4hKQ-qR5VUXB7LZkHJkqshsL405Xpu9goTjaUie8M25KYd-NZoNVHjCtAM5PDk-AO0IYuo/s1600/mio.jpg

I know, it's a perfectly innocent letter 'M" with a water drop. I know. But if you've ever spent any length of time perusing the wall drawings in public men's rooms, it looks a lot like something a whole lot less innocent.

Picture it with feet.

It bears a definite resemblance to a crude sketch of a woman's legs and groinal region. I don't know if this is intentional or not, but it definitely makes the association with blood and urine a whole lot creepier.

And it really makes slogans like this:
http://www.snagabargain.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/FREE-MiO-Water-Enhancer-Sample.bmp http://24blogazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/MiO-Logo.jpg

Seem to be in really bad taste.

Again, I have no idea if this is intentional or not, but I'm guessing someone at the ad agency is tryinjg to do a little subliminal marketing.

And THIS:

I have no idea. Why does the center of the "M," the part that resembles a crotch, resting in a puddle of yellow liquid? These ad guys are seriously messed up.
