Sweet Jeebus, Paul Ryan is Fucking Stupid!

We already knew that Paul Ryan is a terrible, soulless rodent of a human being. We knew he was a person who read Ayn Rand and a: took her seriously, and b: never matured to the point where he could look back and say "man, I can't believe I ever took that shit seriously!"

We knew he was the "numbers guy" whose numbers don't add up. And we knew he was a shameless hypocrite who has spent most of his life receiving money from the government in one way or another while railing against the idea of anyone else getting money from the government.

But I didn't realize he was this fucking stupid!

Paul Ryan: Kids getting free lunches don't have caring parents

I knew he was a nasty enough piece of work to say something so vicious, but I really didn't realize just how profoundly stupid he is.

 

 

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) asserted on Thursday that liberals did not understand that kids who got free lunches at school did not have parents who cared about them at home. 

Well, to be fair, it is true that we don't understand things that are completely and obviously false.

He then told a story of a "young boy from a very poor family" who received free lunches at school "from a government program."
"He didn't want a free lunch," Ryan insisted. "He wanted his own lunch, one in a brown paper bag, just like the other kids."
"He wanted one, he said, because he knew a kid with a brown paper bag had someone who cared for him. This is what the left does not understand."

Okay, let's pretend for a minute that this story was actually true (it isn't).
What's the point of this story?
 What's the lesson here?

If Ryan actually believes that the kid's parents are not packing him a brown-bag lunch because they do not care about him, what does he think will happen if the school doesn't provide the kid with lunch?
This imaginary kid's imaginary parents don't care enough about him to send him to his imaginary school with an imaginary lunch. Do you think that if the school doesn't provide a free lunch, a brown bag is going to magically appear because suddenly this kid's horrible asshole parents will magically start caring about him? His imaginary parents still won't care about him, only now he also gets to go hungry. What problem is this supposed to solve?

Somehow, we survived the Cold War.

We made it through the Cuban Missile Crisis.

We made it through Korea and Vietnam. We got through Nicaragua, Afghanistan, and who knows how many proxy wars.

We made it through the paranoia of the Red Scares and the belligerence of the Reagan years.

Somehow, we made it all the way up to the demise of the Soviet Union without launching World War III against the Russians.

Why do they want so very badly to ratchet up tensions with Russia? It's sort of odd considering the huge crushes they all seem to have on Vladimir Putin.

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has characterized President Obama’s response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as “weak and indecisive”, and has said that by not taking a tougher line against Vladimir Putin, the president was “inviting aggression.

South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham told CNN on Sunday that Obama should “stop going on television and trying to threaten thugs and dictators.” Graham added that “Every time the president goes on national television and threatens Putin or anyone like Putin, everybody’s eyes roll, including mine. We have a weak and indecisive president that invites aggression.”

Putin is one of many world leaders, Palin said, who are “finally taking advantage” of the Obama administration’s weakness.

But see, here's the thing. If you really think that Putin is doing bad things because of some supposed perception of weakness on Obama's part, aren't you making things worse by going on TV and the interwebs and calling him weak? Aren't you contributing to this alleged perception?

Oh, that's right, you don't actually care about Russia, or Ukraine, or even our own national security. You only care about trying to stick it to the black guy in the White House.

Lack of Perspective

Paula Deen thinks that Paula Deen is sorta like Micheal Sam.

Seriously.

Deen says in the People magazine coming out Friday that "I'm fighting to get my name back. I feel like 'embattled' or 'disgraced' will always follow my name. It's like that black football player who recently came out," Deen said, referring to NFL prospect Michael Sam. "He said, 'I just want to be known as a football player. I don't want to be known as a gay football player.' I know exactly what he's saying."

How?

How does she know what. . . wait, first of all, who says "black football player" like that's something unusual? Like how old guys sometimes say "lady doctor" or "lady cop" because they still think that female doctors or cops are unusual. Does she not know that there are lots and lots of black football players? They're even allowed to play quarterback now, Paula!

Also, Micheal Sam is saying he doesn't want to be known for being unusually courageous, for taking a big risk in the interests of advancing the cause of equality, whereas you don't like being known as a racist. Not really the same thing, you know.

“I used to have dreams that I lost everything,” she says. “And when it finally happens, you think, ‘I’m still alive.’ ”

Yes, you totally lost everything. EVERYTHING!
Except you're still really rich.
And you still have a hugely successful restaurant.
And people still buy your cookbooks.
And you'll probably be invited to CPAC.

But other than that, yeah you lost everything! It's a miracle you survived!

A New Twist On Victim-Blaming

Generally, when a Priest is accused of molesting boys, the defense follows one of two victim-blaming templates.
There's the traditional "Ah, kids make stuff up, this child is a wicked little liar" defense. Then there's the Bill Donohue "damn choir boys always seducing these innocent priests!" defense.
 Now the arch-diocese of Minneapolis has a new defense: Blame the victim's parents.

Reverend Sexually Abuses Two Young Boys, Church Blames Their Mother

In 2012, Rev. Curtis Wehmeyer pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy, and to possessing child pornography.
The reverend reportedly abused the boys in his white 2006 camper, which he kept parked outside of Blessed Sacrament Church in St. Paul. Here, he “got drunk, smoked pot, and looked at child pornography.”
He also lured his 12 and 14-year-old victims in, “plied them with alcohol,” and told them to touch themselves while he turned on pornography. Police records indicate that he touched one of the boys several times.

So, you know, standard priest stuff.

Now, the boys’ mother has said the church officials are blaming her for not protecting her sons.
In court earlier this month, Archdiocese lawyers said that she should not have allowed her children to spend time alone with Wehmeyer.
“She was aware of the time (her son) spent with Mr. Wehmeyer, and she knew that such interaction was contrary to established Archdiocese policy,” the Archdiocese said in its filing.

Holy fuck!

Their defense is seriously "hey, you shoulda known better than to leave your kids alone with a fuckin' priest! I mean, whaddidya think was gonna happen? What's he supposed to do, NOT molest 'em? He's a priest for fuck sake!"

Leaders in the Archdiocese reportedly knew of Wehmeyer’s “risky sexual behavior” when he was appointed as a pastor of Blessed Sacrament and St. Thomas the Apostle in 2009. The two St. Paul parishes later merged.

Because of course they did. It's standard operating procedure. You know you got a degenerate priest on your hands, what are you gonna do, warn somebody? Yeah, that'll go over great with the higher-ups!

The church has cut back on payments for family therapy and treatment, further adding to the family’s strains.
For example, although the Archdiocese followed through on promises to pay for family therapy, it did not pay for one of her son’s 66-day stay at a Washington County crisis home this summer, because the bill was for housing, not mental health treatment.
