A Suggestion for MLK Day

How about, from now on, we celebrate Dr. King's day by declaring that it will be a day with no hateful, angry e-mail forwards. Just for one day, let's have no e-mails from family memebers that make us embarrassed to be related to them.

Starting next year, a day or two before MLK Day, e-mail everyone on your list and ask them for just one day, to refrain from sending e-mails full of hatred and anger. No hating on Obama. No hating on immigrants. No hating on the gay people. No calling anyone a Nazi, a Commie, a fascist, etc. Let's see if we can't have just one hate-free day. It doesn't seem like too much to ask.

While we're at it, how about no more columns about what Dr. King would have supported or opposed. Oddly, it seems that Dr. King would have supported whatever it is that the columnist supports and oppose whatever the columnist is against. It's ghoulish, it's spurious, and it's just wrong. Just stop it.
