Doubling Down

It's so predictable. Conservatives come up with a story, story gets debunked, conservatives double down on the original story.

For example: The Lara Logan Benghazi fiasco.

Once it became known that Logan's source for this story was making everything up and wasn't even there, you'd think they'd come to their senses, well, not come to their senses, their senses are not something to which they are able to come, but you'd think they'd drop this one and wait for Issa to fabricate the next faux-scandal of the day. But Noooooooo. . . .

 

 

Noooooooo!!!!



 

Instead they are going with the theory that just because a story isn't true doesn't mean it's not a good story!

 

 

 

Tucker Carlson defends Logan on Benghazi:

 ‘Sometimes the best stories have flaky sources’

 

 

Speaking to Fox News media critic Howard Kurtz on Fox & Friends, Carlson complained that MSNBC had not fired host Martin Bashir over improper comment about Sarah Plain but Logan had been asked to take a leave of absence after several other media outlets determined that her primary source had lied about being at the U.S. mission in Benghazi during the Sept. 11, 2011 terrorist attack.
“Where’s the justice?” the Fox News host asked.

 

 

Yeah, what an injustice!

 

Of course, there is a subtle difference. Bashir said something offensive and distasteful, but it wasn't a lie. You're actually not supposed to lie on the news. I mean, I know you can over there at FOX, but real news organizations have these things called "standards." 

 

Kurtz pointed out that even 60 Minutes was now convinced that Logan’s source, security contractor Dylan Davies, was not telling the truth and that the network never should have allowed Logan to use him in the the report.
“He told a different story to his bosses, he told a different story to the FBI,” Kurtz noted. “At the very least, he has severe credibility problems, which makes me wonder how this story ever got on the air. And while I admire what Logan had done in the past, risking her life in war zones, this was a failure of journalistic effort.”
“Yeah, well, you know as well as I, some of the best stories have flaky sources unfortunately,” Carlson concluded.

 

 

Wow. A "flaky source?" It's one thing to be "flaky," it's another to have no actual knowledge about the event for which you are supposed to be a source.


And it would be one thing if it was just the imbecile Carlson, but of course it's not.

The guy who was on tv doesn't know anything about what happened, therefore "we still don't know what happened?" And Logan is a hero journalist for putting a liar on tv?

law-enforcement agencies in the great state of New Mexico have decided that their chief responsibility is to make ray Kelly's NYPD seem reasonable.

Yes, 5 kids. Police opened fire into a minivan containing five children. It was not, as you might assume, being driven by Pablo Escobar, but by a lady who is the mother of five children. Who was guilty of driving over the speed limit, which is apparently a capital offense in New Mexico now.

And it's not just the unwarranted violence that you might sadly have come to expect from police departments these days, there's also the probing. Apparently New Mexico cops have some sort of sick probing fetish that they're enacting on their citizens against their will.

Marlene Tapia says that she was arrested and forced to strip naked for a contraband examination. The officers at the Metropolitan Detention Center (Bernalillo County New Mexico) claimed that she had a plastic baggie in her vagina and, according to the lawsuit, forced her to bend over and as punishment

According to the lawsuit and Eckert’s medical records, which were released to KOB, Eckert’s abdominal area was X-rayed twice, doctors performed a colonoscopy on him, an enema was inserted anally three separate times and doctors examined his anus twice with their fingers.

Want to guess what heinous crime Eckert committed to be subjected to this degrading inhuman treatment? He ran a stop sign.

As KOB-TV reports, police stopped David Eckert on Jan. 2 after he failed to come to a complete stop at a stop sign outside a Walmart parking lot in Deming, N.M. Things began to go wrong when the authorities asked him to exit his vehicle.
“They say when he stepped out of his car he was standing in a manner that looked as if he was clinching his buttocks,” Shannon Kennedy, Eckert’s attorney, told KOB-TV, according to CBS Las Vegas.

So, if you do go to New Mexico, obey every traffic rule to the letter. And if you do get pulled over, don't stand with clenched buttocks. The punishment for those crimes is horrific.

I renew my objection

I renew my objection to the veneration of Ms Oprah Winfrey.

I mean, seriously, the Presidential Medal of Freedom? What exactly are the criteria for this award?

According to Wikipedia:
It recognizes those individuals who have made "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors".

Okay, so giving this award to Bill Clinton? Sure, why not? Not for anything he did during his presidency, but for the humanitarian work he's done since, sure.
Gloria Steinem? Absolutely.
Loretta Lynn? Hell yeah.
But Oprah?

What meritorious contribution has she made to world peace, cultural, or any other significant endeavor?

Nothing against Ms Winfrey, who seems like a perfectly nice person, but her show was garbage. And any positive contributions she may have made to the world are surely outweighed by her promotion of the absurd magical thinking of "The Secret."

 

That an intelligent grown woman like Ms Winfrey could be suckered into this "if you wish for something hard enough, it will come to you" claptrap is mind-boggling.

 

Also, if you really really believe in faeries, Tinkerbell will live!

 

 

It would be laughable if it weren't so offensive. And it's offensive in two ways. First, it's offensive because it's a scam, taking money from the gullible and desperate. Second, it's offensive because it's a new form of victim-blaming. Oh, you're poor? I guess you didn't concentrate hard enough on attracting wealth! You're sick? Should have spent more time attracting good health! It's horrible. Also, she's responsible for Dr. Oz.
