Name One

The Morning Quote

“There is no need to talk about Billy wanting to marry a goat.”

–Missouri’s Dwight Scharnhorst (R-St. Louis) discussing their own “don’t say gay” legislation

Lest you get the wrong impression, he concluded thusly:

“I’m not bigoted. I have friends who are homosexual.”

(HuffPo)

They always do this. Every time one of these pricks says something hateful about gay folks, they always claim that they have "gay friends." And no one ever calls them on it. No one ever says, "oh, you have gay friends? Give me the name of one of them. Because I'd like to meet the gay person who would be friends with someone like you."

Remember when "Joe" the "plumber" said he had friends who were gay? And he said, and I'm paraphrasing here, but he said something like "They know where I stand, they know I'd never allow them anywhere near my kids." Why didn't the reporter say "give me the contact information for one of these gay friends?" Because you know damn well that he wouldn't be able to produce one.
Could you imagine a scenario like that? Imagine someone says about you "yeah, we're good friends. He's a good guy. You know, turn your back for two seconds and he'll be ass-raping your kids, but other than that. . ."  Is there any chance you'd ever be friends with that person?

Or can you imagine a gay person saying "Oh, sure, Dwight's a good friend of mine. He compares my relationship with the love of my life to goat-bangin' but other than that, he's a good guy." It's bullshit. Even a log-cabin Republican would have more dignity than to befriend someone like that. (maybe GOProud. . .)

From now on, when a gay-hater says he has gay friends, or a racist says he has black friends, or whatever, reporters should be legally required to say "name one. Because if that claim can not be verified, we will assume that you're lying."

You know, if I said I had friends who could shoot webs from their wrists and fly through the city, you wouldn't just accept that at face value. That's only slightly less believable than Dwight Scharnhorst having friends who are gay who don't mind being compared to goat-fuckers.

Well hell, I have acquaintances (notice, I did not say friends) that are Republicans, and I sure as hell would not leave THEM alone with my children.
