Oh, pretty good. Thanks for asking.
Friday evening and Saturday we went to the Candler Park Music Fest. One of the great things about living in Atlanta is lots of free music. Technically, we paid $10 for a wristband that guaranteed admission both days, otherwise we would have had to be one of the first to show up, but admission was technically free. Anyway, for $10 we saw The Infamous Stringdusteres, Leftover Salmon, Southern Culture on the Skids and 7 Handle Circus. If we had stuck around long enough, we could have caught Shoverls & Rope and Drive-By Truckers, too, but instead we went to one of Decatur's free concerts in the square and saw Jugtime Ragband.
It was too dark Saturday evening to get video of Leftover Salmon or Infamous Stringdusters, and by the time we got to Decatur, my phone was out of memory, so here are the two videos that came out okay:
And here is some video that someone else took of Jugtime Ragband, my new favorite band in Atlanta for the moment:
They've added a couple members since these videos were taken. At the show we saw, there was a trombonist, a backup vocalist and a guitarist added to the mix. If you get a chance, you should check 'em out. http://jugtimeragband.com/

High Strung String Band
Saw our favorite local band this Saturday, doing a free concert in Decatur Square. I took these videos on my phone, so I apologize for the quality. Also, I think one of them cut off when I ran out of memory.
I'm not sure you can technically call them a bluegrass band anymore since they lost their banjo player and added a drummer(!) Also, at least at this show, guitarist John Mickelson played electric(!!)
They mostly write their own songs which is unusual for a young string band, I've only ever heard them do one Bill Monroe cover. I have heard them cover Bruce Springsteen, the Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, and DJ Khaled. I wish I had videos of those.
Anyway, please enjoy the High Strung String Band, and go here for more information about upcoming dates and/or to purchase one of their excellent cd's.

Chomp & Stomp this Weekend!
If you live in the greater Atlanta area, or if you can get to Atlanta easily, this weekend would be the time to come! This Saturday, Nov. 1st is CHOMP AND STOMP!

What is Chomp and Stomp, you ask? It's so funny that you should ask that, because I was just about to tell you what Chomp and Stomp is. It is the world's largest (I assume) Bluegrass festival and chili cook-off.

Apostles of Bluegrass, Chomp&Stomp 2013
The festival is free. If you want chili, buy a spoon for $5 and sample all you can handle. (get there early, chili will run out)
Music starts at 11:00am sharp. Our personal favorite, the High Strung String Band plays at 3:30, if you like to sleep in.
We also highly recommend Slim Chance & the Convicts at 1:00 pm
(yeah, not all the bands ar e strictly bluegrass.)
And I see "Farmland Band" listed at 5:00pm. If this is "Smokey's Farmland Band" which I assume it is, we highly recommend them as well.
But really, you can't go wrong at Chomp & Stomp.
Also, there's beer, cabbage games, an artists' market and some other fun stuff. And the Autumn weather in Atlanta is usually perfect.
So come

NEW FEATURE -- Cafe' Chaos
Visit Cafe Chaos for music.
Specializing in the Atlanta music scene, but will feature national and international artists as well.
The picture is of a nightclub in the Latin Quarter of Montreal.
The French Canadians totally get me.
Also, the French Canadians are probably the coolest people in the world.
French people are really cool, Canadians are really cool, so put 'em together and voila!
Full disclosure, my wife's family are Quebecois on her mother's side, so I may be a little biased.

Latest Discoveries
From the fertile musical soil of Atlanta, GA come these new musical discoveries.
1) We saw these guys at the Little 5 Points Halloween Parade/Festival. I looooooooooved 'em. They're sort of a jug-band / psychobilly mix, I guess? Anyway, their name is Uncle Daddy & The Kissin' Cousins. Check 'em out:

2) Our scooter club rode behind these guys in the parade. They kept us entertained and we did our best to dance while riding scooters. They're called Mermaids:

when we saw them, they had a Theremin player which was pretty cool.
3) This guy I just happened to hear on the radio on the way home from work. This is Tyler Lyle:
4) These guys are actually from Athens, GA, but they spend a fair amount of time in ATL, and they've been getting a lot of buzz lately, so here are Modern Skirts:

The Best Band in Atlanta
According to the well-respected local weekly with the really dumb name, "Creative Loafing," there are two candidates for best band in Atlanta.
The editors chose Gentleman Jesse and his Men, while the readers selected The Black Lips. Both of these bands are pretty damn great, so let's put them head to head and see if we can't pick an ultimate winner.
First up, it's Gentleman Jesse.
Now the Black Lips.
Gentleman Jesse.
The Black Lips.
Who could choose between them? It will taker a wiser person than I.
Leave your vote in the comments.

Music Break!
And now, to wash the taste of "and we danced" out of your ears ( I know that makes no sense) The daily irritant is proud to present another reason why Atlanta, GA is the music capitol of the world, SNOWDEN! and their song Anti-Anti
I don't think this is the "official" video, I assume it was made by some fans, but the sound quality is good. And if you're the kind of fella that likes to watch pretty girls dancing, well, this video is for you even without sound!
